About

Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh is home to Monea Castle, a historical landmark. Built for Malcolm Hamilton and finished in 1619, it shows Scottish architectural influences and is considered one of Fermanagh's plantation castles. The castle stands almost to its full height, featuring two entrance towers and a walled bawn with defensive flanker towers. It was briefly held during conflicts in 1641 and 1688 before being burned and abandoned in the 18th century. The monument is located on a working farm with livestock; dogs are not permitted.
